The Lakes

Few kilometers to enjoy the view and the breeze of lakes, the scent of flowers and the mild climate of this area. A real paradise exclusive, also made by many islands with their flower gardens, lemon trees, wisteria and rhododendrons. A trip to the past, when the great writers of the 800 visited these places to discover Italy of the sun and the beautiful climate.

Orta Lake – San Giulio’s Island and the Sacred Mount


The village of Orta with its island called “dormitory of saints” offers tourists considerable visiting points. In fact, the island is one of the most remarkable Romanesque monuments of Piedmont, namely the Basilica of San Giulio. Inside there are valuable frescoes of the XVI century of Gaudenzian school. On the hill, rising on the picturesque peninsula, which houses the center of Orta, stands Sacro Monte dedicated to St. Francis, a devotional path consisting of chapels containing statues and frescoes realized following the example of Sacro Monte di Varallo.

Lake Maggiore – Borromeo Islands – Isola Bella – Stresa

On Isola Bella we can find the Borromeo Palace, builder in the 1670 by order of the Earl Vitaliano Borromeo. The 25 rooms of the palace are decorated with paintings, statues, tapestries and crystal chandeliers made by Murano.
Impressive are the caves, embedded with lake’s cobblestones.

From the palace we can have access to the beautiful Garden similar to an anchored vessel, typical example of an ‘Italian garden’. Expanded on terraces, is full of different types of plants and rare flowers.

Lake Maggiore – Borromean Islands – Isola Madre

On the Isola Madre stands the Palace built from the end of the 15th century and considered the first of the villas built on Lake Maggiore. The building is surrounded by a beautiful botanical garden, where from the 1800s exotic species from all over the world were cultivated.
Between azaleae and rhododendron bushes, swamp cypresses and tea plants, free peacocks and pheasants can be seen and you can admire a collection of 150 varieties of camellias.
